Why did Gilgamesh take the Genji Gloves?

The Siren’s Tower chest encounter starts an optional chase. It is not the fight that lets you keep the gloves permanently. The later airship and bridge encounters are the meaningful progression points for this equipment chain.

Follow the correct stage of the chase

  1. Complete the optional early meetings, including the Waterfall Way appearance.
  2. When Gilgamesh appears on the Enterprise deck later in the story, accept his challenge.
  3. Finish the deck encounter and check the quest log for Battle at the Big Bridge.
  4. Visit the four marked world-map bridges. Use the log to identify any unfinished visit.
  5. Continue to the final Kolobos Bridge objective and defeat him for Genji Armor.

The Genji Gloves return through the later encounter sequence. Check the actual reward and inventory rather than treating the first tower chest as permanent ownership.

Which element should you use?

The later Gilgamesh fights have no elemental weakness. His summoned enemies are different:

Added enemy Useful element
Cactuar Ice or Water
Tonberry Lightning
Bomb-type summon Water

Change targets when a summon appears. The element that helps clear that enemy does not become a new weakness on Gilgamesh himself.

Prepare for the final bridge battle

Bring recovery for Blind and a way to remove his buffs if your learned commands allow it. A long encounter becomes less manageable when his speed and defenses stay enhanced and your attackers keep missing.

Watch for scripted event transitions as well as normal actions. A temporary period of ineffective damage is not proof that every element is wrong; continue the encounter’s event flow rather than resetting immediately.

Is Gilgamesh a Vision reward?

This chain is for Genji equipment, not a ninth party member or an extra entry in the 26-Vision directory. For a separate optional Vision fight, use the Sephiroth guide.
