What does Stagger do?

Stagger is separate from HP. Depleting an enemy’s Stagger gauge interrupts its action and creates a damage opportunity. Xbox Wire’s launch overview also explains a bonus action for the character who triggers it. This makes when you break an enemy important, not just how much HP you remove.

An HP-focused attack and a Stagger-focused attack therefore solve different problems. Read both parts of an ability’s displayed effect before deciding which is more valuable for the next action on the timeline.

Plan around the next enemy action

Use this decision sequence when it is your turn:

  1. Read the timeline. Find the enemy that will act before you can comfortably recover or prepare.
  2. Inspect what you know. Use revealed weaknesses and resistances rather than assuming every enemy of a familiar name behaves like another game’s version.
  3. Compare gauges. Decide whether you can defeat the enemy outright or are better placed to deplete Stagger.
  4. Assign the job. Use an available character and command suited to that objective.
  5. Recheck the situation. After the attack, look at the new gauge and timeline before spending the next character’s action.

This sequence uses information the battle presents. It does not require a speculative damage formula or a fixed party recommendation.

What is Sweeping Stagger?

The launch overview describes Sweeping Stagger as staggering every surviving enemy together, producing bonus end-of-round actions for the party. It also provides the opportunity to use a Vision’s Resonance.

Against several enemies, look at the remaining Stagger on all of them before finishing your actions. If one is still active, breaking a different enemy again is not the same as arranging a Sweeping Stagger. Conversely, committing every action to setup may be unwise if an enemy must be defeated or a party member must be healed immediately.

How should you choose a Resonance?

A Vision’s Resonance is part of that Vision’s kit. Decide based on the current battle state and the abilities actually available to your party. Do not assume that an iconic character’s animation makes it the best option for every encounter.

Before choosing, ask which outcome you need next: finishing a target, spreading damage, or another effect explicitly listed by the equipped Vision. Check the in-game description rather than treating every Resonance as an interchangeable attack.

What carries between Vision setups?

The equipped Vision adds abilities, while mastery provides a separate route to character customization. A skill available from the currently equipped Vision is not necessarily something the character retains after switching away. Compare the command list and mastery descriptions when you change the setup; the Visions guide separates those concepts.

Diagnose a failed attempt

Record the move that changed the fight. If an enemy acted before your planned interruption, review the timeline and Stagger plan. If an attack performed poorly, review the discovered resistance information. If recovery could not keep up, review who was assigned to recovery and whether their action was available in time.

Change one relevant part of the setup, then compare the result. We do not publish an invented battle transcript, guaranteed low-level strategy, or an untested boss weakness here. In particular, FF7 Remake’s percentage-based Stagger advice should not be imported into Resonance merely because both games use the same word.
